Genuine Ford engine core plug, also called a freeze plug, for Super Duty applications with the 6.7L Power Stroke turbo diesel engine. The plug fills a casting hole in the cylinder block or head left over from the foundry process and serves the secondary purpose of expelling under freeze pressure rather than allowing the block itself to crack if the coolant ever freezes solid. The plug is a small consumable part that should be replaced any time the original is disturbed during a major engine repair such as a head removal, head gasket service, or block deck refresh. The Ford-supplied unit carries the correct diameter, depth, and corrosion treatment to seal reliably against the casting bore and to resist the electrolytic corrosion that drives plug failure in long-service-life engines. Installation is straightforward with a brass drift or a dedicated installation tool, with care taken to start the plug square to the bore and drive it to the original depth.
