Ford catalog name is Hose Assembly Vent. The differential vent hose allows the rear axle housing to breathe and equalize internal air pressure as the gear oil heats and expands during driving which prevents pressure from building and forcing lubricant past the axle and pinion seals. The vent also keeps water dust and contaminants out of the axle when the truck is driven through water or deep snow.
