  This genuine Ford camshaft sprocket, or variable cam timing phaser, controls intake valve timing on the 3.5 liter engine in the 17-25 F-150, Expedition and Navigator by advancing and retarding the camshaft relative to the timing chain. Working with the engine's oil-pressure-driven control, it optimizes power, fuel economy and emissions across the rev range. A worn or stuck phaser commonly produces a rattle on startup, a knocking or ticking from the front of the engine, rough idle, reduced performance, or stored cam-timing correlation fault codes. Because the phaser relies on clean oil and tight internal tolerances, contamination or wear leads to delayed response and noise that worsens over time.
