• Description:

  This Genuine Ford Hood Lift Cylinder, also referred to in the catalog as the Gas Lift Support, fits the passenger side of 17-25 Ford F-250 SD, F-350 SD, F-450 SD, and F-550 SD trucks. The cylinder supports the hood in the raised position via internal gas pressure, replacing the older mechanical prop rod approach used on prior Super Duty platforms. Replacement is common when the cylinder loses pressure and the hood no longer stays raised on its own, when the seal weeps oil down the body, or when the cylinder has been bent or kinked by prior abuse. The cylinder is sided; the driver-side companion carries a separate part number. Replace both sides together when one fails, since they typically wear at similar rates and a mismatched pair can let the hood twist or close unevenly. After installation, raise and lower the hood several times to confirm both cylinders support the hood without sag, and verify that the new cylinder does not contact any nearby components when the hood is fully closed.
