The antenna base mounts on the rear roof and houses the antenna elements for AM, FM, GPS, and satellite radio reception depending on the equipped package. This part is sold paint-to-match primer and requires professional refinishing to the body color code on the door jamb before installation. Common reasons for replacement include impact damage from low overhang strikes, peeling or fading paint after years of sun exposure, cracking from age or UV, water intrusion through a compromised seal, and reduced radio reception from a damaged internal antenna element. Symptoms include obvious physical damage, water leak in the headliner near the rear of the roof, poor radio reception, and intermittent satellite radio dropout.
