The camshaft is the rotating shaft inside the cylinder head that drives the exhaust valves through the rocker arm and lifter assembly, controlling valve timing and lift for the exhaust stroke of the combustion cycle. The left-side exhaust camshaft is one of four camshafts on a dual-overhead-cam V6 engine, with separate intake and exhaust shafts on each cylinder bank.
