The oil pump is the heart of the lubrication system, drawing oil from the pan through the pickup and delivering it under pressure to the crankshaft bearings, camshafts, variable cam timing phasers, chain tensioners, and the rest of the engine so every moving surface stays protected by a continuous oil film.
