This is the Genuine Ford upper active grille shutter assembly for 18-20 F-150. The shutter is the powered louver pack that mounts behind the upper grille opening, opening and closing in response to PCM control of the actuator based on coolant temperature, AC load, and vehicle speed so that aerodynamic drag is reduced at cruise while cooling airflow is opened up as needed. Construction is a molded frame, a group of pivoted louvers, and an electric actuator with feedback to the PCM. A shutter that is stuck closed will cause cooling complaints and can throw P-codes related to actuator position, while a shutter stuck open eliminates the aerodynamic gain at highway speed. This OEM service shutter installs as a complete unit with the engineered actuator preassembled, replacing the original at its mounting points behind the grille. Reconnect the actuator harness, verify clean motion of the louver pack by hand before reinstalling the front trim, and clear any stored fault codes so the system relearns its end stops on the first ignition cycle after the work is complete.
