This is a genuine Ford alternator for 18-21 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles. The alternator is driven by the serpentine belt and generates electrical power to run the vehicle accessories and charge the battery during operation. Common failure modes include internal voltage regulator failure causing overcharge or undercharge, bearing failure with audible whine or grinding, brush wear after high mileage, diode bridge failure causing reduced output or ripple voltage, and pulley clutch (one-way clutch decoupler) failure causing belt squeal or accessory drive vibration. Symptoms include battery warning light, dead battery overnight, dim headlights at idle, flickering interior lights, battery overcharging (gassing electrolyte), and grinding or whining noise from the accessory drive area. Replacement requires removing the serpentine belt, disconnecting the battery, unbolting the alternator from its mounting bracket, and disconnecting the output cable and harness connector. Always test the new unit on a charging system tester and verify normal output voltage at idle and at 2,000 rpm before releasing the vehicle.
