Genuine Ford engine auxiliary water pump for 18-21 Ford F-150, Expedition, and Lincoln Navigator trucks, in service to an early-22 production cutover. This unit supersedes HL3Z-18D473-E. The auxiliary pump is the electrically driven coolant pump that supports cabin heat output during extended idle when the engine-driven pump is not turning fast enough to maintain heater core flow. It is also part of the HVAC system architecture that allows the cabin heat to continue during start-stop cycles on engines so equipped. When the pump fails the symptoms include reduced cabin heat at idle, a noise from the front of the engine bay, and in some cases an HVAC-related diagnostic code. The Ford-supplied unit carries the correct mounting bracket, electrical connector, and hose connections for the application. Confirm production date before ordering since the early-22 cutover changed the service part to a different number.
