  This is a genuine Ford Motorcraft vapor canister, catalog part number CX-2612, the activated-charcoal evaporative emissions EVAP canister fitted to 2018-2022 Ford EcoSport models. The canister is a sealed housing packed with activated carbon that captures fuel vapors as they evaporate from the fuel tank, storing the hydrocarbons instead of venting them to the atmosphere; when the engine is running and conditions are met, the powertrain control module opens the purge valve and manifold vacuum draws the stored vapors into the intake to be burned during normal combustion. This assembly incorporates the integrated vent control solenoid that seals the canister for the onboard leak-detection monitor and admits fresh air during purge. A saturated, cracked, or internally failed canister is a frequent cause of an illuminated check engine light with evaporative-system trouble codes such as small-leak, large-leak, and purge-flow faults, a lingering fuel odor around the vehicle, a hissing or difficulty when removing the fuel cap, slow or repeated clicking during refueling, and in some cases a rough idle right after a purge event.
