• Description:

  This oxygen sensor is the rear (downstream) heated oxygen sensor for 18-23 Mustang 5.0L applications with automatic transmission, mounted on the left side of the exhaust system after the catalytic converter. The sensor measures oxygen content in the post-catalyst exhaust stream and provides the powertrain control module with the catalyst monitor feedback used to verify that the converter is reducing pollutants per specification. A failing or fouled downstream sensor produces a catalyst inefficiency code (P0420 family), even when the converter itself is functioning normally. Sensors are a wear part. Replacement is typically performed when scan tool diagnosis confirms the sensor is reading flat, slow, or off-pattern. Installation requires the exhaust system to be at a moderate temperature for the threaded boss to release the old sensor. Apply anti-seize sparingly to the new sensor threads. Avoid contamination of the sensor tip during handling; oils and silicones permanently poison the sensor element.
