- Description:
This oxygen sensor is the front (upstream) heated oxygen sensor for 18-23 Mustang 5.0L applications with automatic transmission, mounted on the right side of the exhaust system before the catalytic converter. The sensor measures oxygen content in the exhaust stream and provides the powertrain control module with the air-fuel ratio feedback that closed-loop fuel control depends on. A failing or fouled upstream sensor produces incorrect fuel correction, which shows up as poor fuel economy, surging at part-throttle, illuminated check engine light, and fuel system or oxygen sensor trouble codes. Sensors are a wear part. Replacement is typically performed when scan tool diagnosis confirms the sensor is reading slow or off-pattern compared to its companion. Installation requires the exhaust system to be at a moderate temperature for the threaded boss to release the old sensor; do not attempt removal cold or fully hot. Apply anti-seize sparingly to the new sensor threads.
