  This genuine Ford OEM hood lift gas cylinder is the strut used to support the hood in the open position on 18-24 Expedition and Lincoln Navigator trucks. The cylinder uses a calibrated nitrogen charge to balance the hood weight across its full travel and is intended to hold the hood at any partial open angle without the use of a prop rod. As the gas charge decays with age and temperature cycling, the strut loses force and the hood begins to drop when released, which is the most common reason for replacement. Installing this OEM cylinder restores the original opening effort and hold force and prevents the slow hood drop that can pinch hands or damage the hood liner.
