• Description:

  This is the Genuine Ford engine knock sensor for 18-25 Ford Escape, F-150, and Mustang 5.0L applications, supplied as the updated service replacement that supersedes JR3A-12A699-AA. The knock sensor is the piezo-electric sensor that monitors engine block vibration in the frequency range of knock and detonation, returning a signal the PCM uses to retard spark on a cylinder-specific basis to protect the engine from damage. The sensor threads or bolts into a pocket on the engine block and uses the captive Ford connector for harness mating. A failed or out-of-range knock sensor can throw a P0325 or P0330 family code, force the PCM to default to a conservative spark map, and reduce engine power and economy until repair. Install with the engine cool, the mounting pocket clean of debris, the sensor torqued to the published value with no thread sealant unless specifically called for, and the connector seated fully into the harness. Clear stored codes and verify knock sensor activity on a scan tool under controlled load.
