• Description:

  This is a genuine Ford headlamp level or ride height sensor for the 18-25 F-150, Bronco, Expedition, and Lincoln Navigator. The sensor measures the vertical position of the chassis relative to the suspension linkage at one or more locations, reporting the position to the body control module or headlamp module for use in automatic headlamp leveling, ride height adjustment on vehicles with that capability, or other systems that depend on chassis attitude information. The sensor uses a rotary potentiometer or non-contact angular sensor linked to the suspension control arm through a calibrated lever and linkage. Failure modes include linkage breakage from chassis flex or impact, internal sensor wear that produces drifting voltage output, electrical connector corrosion that produces intermittent operation, and physical damage from off-pavement use. Symptoms include headlamps that point too high or too low and do not adjust correctly during normal driving, fault codes from the headlamp module or body control module, and any related ride height control problems on vehicles with active suspension. The genuine sensor carries the correct calibration curve, linkage length, and mounting hole position for the application. Substituting a generic sensor can produce subtle calibration errors that do not throw a code but degrade system behavior. Replacement requires access to the sensor mounting location, careful documentation of linkage routing, removal of the sensor mounting bolts and harness, and methodical reinstallation with linkage adjusted to the home position before clearing any stored fault codes.
