Genuine Ford OEM rear axle pinion lock nut part number HL3Z-4320-A, the crush-style retaining nut that secures the pinion gear to the differential and sets pinion bearing preload. This lock nut fits 18-25 Ford F-150, 18-25 Expedition, 18-25 Transit, and 18-25 Lincoln Navigator equipped with the 9.75 inch axle featuring electronic locking differential, without positraction. The pinion nut is a torque-to-yield single-use fastener and must be replaced whenever the pinion is removed, never reused. Reusing the original nut frequently causes pinion bearing preload to drift outside of specification, leading to gear whine, premature bearing wear, or pinion seal failure. The nut ships included with a complete pinion gear assembly when ordered from Ford, or as a standalone replacement when only the seal or yoke is being serviced. Setting pinion bearing preload after replacement requires the workshop-specified procedure with a torque wrench and dial indicator. Genuine Ford nuts maintain the factory crush characteristic to ensure correct preload behavior. Ships in original Ford packaging with the standard Ford limited parts warranty.
