• Description:

  This is a genuine Ford engine coolant temperature sensor with broad multi-engine fitment across 18-25 model years, including F-150 with the 2.7L EcoBoost, 3.0L diesel, and 5.2L; F-250 with the 6.7L Powerstroke diesel; Bronco; Explorer; Mustang with the 5.2L; and Ranger. The sensor monitors coolant temperature at a defined location in the cooling system, reporting analog or digital voltage to the powertrain control module for use in fuel calibration, cooling fan activation, transmission shift scheduling, and various secondary control strategies. A failing coolant temperature sensor produces a range of symptoms including hard cold starts when the sensor reports falsely warm, rich running with poor fuel economy when it reports falsely cold, cooling fan operation at incorrect coolant temperatures, transmission shift calibration drift, and check engine illumination with sensor-specific diagnostic trouble codes. The genuine sensor carries the correct thermistor characteristics calibrated to the powertrain control module's lookup table; substituting a generic sensor with even slightly different resistance versus temperature characteristics can produce subtle calibration drift that does not throw a code but degrades engine behavior. Replacement is typically straightforward: drain coolant to below the sensor port, unplug the harness, unscrew the sensor, install the new one with a small amount of thread sealant if Ford specifies it for that application, torque to specification, refill and bleed the cooling system, and clear any stored codes. Verify the engine option before ordering, since the same part number covers multiple engines but related sensor numbers in the same family fit different applications.
