- Description:
This rear main crankshaft oil seal is the dealer service part for 18-25 Bronco, E-350, F-150, Mustang 5.0L Coyote Gen 3 and Lincoln Aviator applications. The seal sits in the rear of the engine block, riding on the crankshaft snout to keep crankcase oil from migrating past the crank into the flywheel area. Replacement is most often needed when oil weeping is observed at the bellhousing, behind the flexplate or flywheel, or in the clutch area on manual-transmission vehicles. Access requires the transmission to be removed; while the transmission is out, inspect the flexplate, ring gear, and pilot bearing as a matter of course, since reassembly labor makes single-item replacement of any of those items disproportionately expensive. Installation must use the proper seal driver to seat the seal squarely in its bore without deforming the metal case; an improperly seated seal will leak immediately or shortly after return to service. Lubricate the seal lip with engine oil before assembly to prevent damage during crankshaft engagement.
