This is the Genuine Ford automatic transmission torque converter for 19-23 Transit Connect equipped with the 2.0L engine and the 8F35 automatic transmission. It is the fluid coupling between the engine and the transmission, made up of a sealed housing with an impeller, turbine, stator, and lock-up clutch tuned to the calibration of this powertrain. The converter sits in the bell housing area of the transmission and is the part that allows the engine to idle while the transmission is in gear and the vehicle is stopped, then locks up at cruise for direct mechanical coupling. This service number supersedes JM5Z-7902-C, JM5Z-7902-H, and JM5Z-7902-R as the current OEM service replacement. Symptoms of a failed converter include shudder at lock-up, slip under cruise load, and stored P-codes in the converter clutch family. Install with new pump seal as appropriate, flush the cooler and lines, fill with the correct ATF, follow the Ford-published procedure, and complete the adaptive learn. Note this part carries core charge applied at purchase and refundable on return of the original converter.
