  This genuine Ford rear shock absorber is the hydraulic damper for the 2019 through 2023 Ford Transit Connect rear suspension. It controls the motion of the rear springs and axle, damping bounce and rebound so the body stays settled over bumps, dips, and load changes while keeping the rear tires in firm contact with the road. As the shock wears, its valving and seals lose the ability to control motion, producing a bouncy or wallowing ride, excessive body sway, rear-end clunking or bottoming over bumps, longer stopping distances with rear hop, and cupped rear tire wear. Fluid leaking down the shock body is a definitive sign of failure. The unit is charged with pressurized gas, so it must be handled and disposed of according to the Ford service procedure and ships as ground-only hazardous material. Bolt the shock to the original mounting points, torque the fasteners to the published specification, and replace both rear shocks together so left and right damping remain balanced for consistent ride quality and load control.
