This is a genuine Ford automatic transmission oil cooler for 19-24 Edge and 22-23 Escape vehicles equipped with 2.0L, 2.7L, or 3.5L engines. The cooler is an air-to-fluid heat exchanger that mounts in front of the radiator and removes heat from the transmission fluid before returning it to the gearbox. This part supersedes the earlier J1GZ-7869-A. Common failure modes include internal rupture which mixes coolant and transmission fluid (creating a milky pink fluid in the radiator), external leakage at the inlet or outlet fitting, fin damage from road debris, and corrosion at the steel cooling lines. Symptoms include low transmission fluid level, harsh or slipping shifts, transmission overheat warnings, coolant loss, and pink residue in the radiator overflow tank. A failed cooler with internal cross-contamination requires replacement of the cooler plus thorough flushing of both the cooling system and transmission. Always use the correct specified Ford fluid for refill, and follow the bleeding procedure for the transmission to remove trapped air before driving.
