This Genuine Ford transmission brake steel plate fits 20-22 F-250 and F-350 Super Duty trucks with the 10R140 ten-speed automatic transmission and is specific to the B brake pack. The 10R140 uses both rotating clutches and stationary brakes to lock various planetary gear elements to the case for gear ratio production. The steel plate is the smooth-surfaced reaction plate that the friction plate squeezes against under hydraulic apply pressure. Brake pack steel plates use specific outer spline geometry that engages the case, while the friction plates use inner spline geometry that engages the rotating element being held. Substituting plates with the wrong thickness changes pack clearance and apply travel, causing harsh engagement, slip under load, or premature wear. Plates showing heat blueing, dishing, or glazing must be replaced as a set with their matching frictions. When servicing the B brake pack, set the pack clearance to factory specification using the published selective washer chart and torque the retaining hardware to the published value.
