This Genuine Ford turbocharger assembly fits 20-22 F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 Super Duty pickup trucks with the 6.7L Power Stroke diesel engine. The turbocharger is a variable geometry, ball-bearing unit driven by exhaust gas energy that delivers boosted intake charge to the cold-side intercooler and ultimately to the intake manifold, providing the high torque and broad power band that the 6.7L Power Stroke delivers under load. The vane mechanism is electronically controlled by the powertrain control module via a unison ring and actuator, modulating effective turbine area to match boost demand. A failed turbocharger causes loss of boost, low power, smoke at the exhaust, oil consumption through the turbo seals, and codes referencing the boost actuator or vane position circuit. non-OEM turbochargers commonly miss the correct compressor and turbine wheel balance specs and actuator calibration. This OEM unit ships with the wastegate or unison ring set to factory calibration. Replace inlet and outlet seals at the install, prime the oil feed before initial cranking, and follow the workshop manual procedure for adaptive learn after the swap.
