This Genuine Ford automatic transmission oil cooler fits 20-22 F-250 and F-350 Super Duty trucks with the 6.2L gas V8 paired to the 10R140 ten-speed automatic transmission, and F-450 and F-550 Super Duty trucks with the 7.3L Godzilla gas V8 also paired to the 10R140. The transmission cooler is an external heat exchanger that controls transmission fluid temperature under heavy load and high ambient conditions by transferring heat from the transmission fluid into either the engine coolant circuit or ambient air. Maintaining transmission fluid temperature within the safe operating range is critical to clutch pack longevity, valve body sealing, and friction modifier durability. A failed cooler may leak transmission fluid externally or restrict flow internally and cause transmission overheating under load. non-OEM coolers often use inferior brazing or tube wall thickness, leading to early failure. Replace the cooler O-rings and sealing washers any time the cooler is removed, flush the cooler passages thoroughly during any cross-contamination repair, and verify transmission fluid level, color, and odor after the install.
