• Description:

  This is a genuine Ford front drive shaft boot called out in Ford TSB 23-2174 and the 10R60 transmission service kit for 20-23 Explorer, Aviator, and Police Interceptor Utility AWD builds. The boot retains the constant velocity joint grease at the inner front halfshaft joint and protects the joint from contamination, and is one of the components Ford specifies as cannot-be-reused because removing the boot stretches the rubber past its installed shape. Technicians reach for this boot during the FADA-to-intermediate-shaft conversion called out in the TSB, during a halfshaft service that exposes the inner joint, or when a tear inspection reveals boot damage before the joint has been contaminated. The boot supplies the correct profile, durometer, and fold count for the U625 platform's inner CV joint and articulation envelope, so an non-OEM equivalent will not deliver the same service life. Install with fresh CV grease in the correct grade and amount specified by Ford, secure with the matching boot clamp also called out as a single-use component, and pair with the related lock ring and seal at the inner stub position. After installation, work the joint through its full articulation range to seat the boot and distribute grease evenly before reassembling the suspension. Inspect the inner halfshaft spline and joint cage for wear while the boot is off, since servicing those items together saves labor and prevents repeat shop visits.
