• Description:

  This is the genuine Ford heated exhaust gas oxygen sensor, cataloged as an upper oxygen sensor and also carried under the Motorcraft number DY-1529. Ford's catalog describes it for the 3.0L applications on Explorer, Aviator and Police Interceptor Utility in the left upstream position, on 2020-2024 vehicles built to 05/13/2024, including hybrid builds. The sensor threads into the exhaust ahead of the catalytic converter and reports the oxygen content of the exhaust stream to the powertrain control module, which uses that feedback to trim fuel delivery bank by bank and hold the mixture at the ideal ratio for the catalyst to work. A lazy, contaminated or dead upstream sensor causes a check engine light with sensor circuit, slow response or fuel trim codes, poor fuel economy, rough or surging idle, hesitation on acceleration, and eventually a ruined catalytic converter from a persistently rich mixture. Silicone, coolant and oil contamination, along with simple age and heat cycling, are the usual killers. Pay attention to the build-date and side-specific fitment, since the right bank and later builds take different numbers. Use anti-seize sparingly on the threads only, keep it off the sensor tip, and torque to specification.
