This Genuine Ford Ignition Coil Assembly, also cross-referenced as Motorcraft DG-581, fits the 7.3L Godzilla V8 gas in 20-24 Ford F-250 SD, F-350 SD, F-450 SD, and F-550 SD, plus E-350 Super Duty and E-450 Super Duty. The coil is a coil-on-plug unit that mounts directly to a spark plug and provides the high-voltage discharge that initiates combustion in that cylinder. Supersedes -A. Replacement is common when the engine logs a misfire code at a specific cylinder, when the engine stumbles or hesitates under throttle, or when the boot at the plug end has cracked enough to admit moisture and short the plug to ground. Coils are replaced individually as a service item; full sets are recommended only when multiple coils are aging or have already failed. Apply dielectric grease to the plug boot before installation, seat the coil fully on the plug, and torque the hold-down fastener to the Ford-specified value. Clear any stored misfire codes and confirm there are no new codes after a brief drive.
