This is a genuine Ford transmission clutch friction plate for 20-25 Escape vehicles equipped with the 8F24 or 8F35 eight-speed automatic transmission. The plate is an externally-splined friction disc that interleaves with smooth steel separator plates inside one of the eight-speed's multi-plate wet clutch packs. When the pack is hydraulically applied, the friction material grips the steel separators and transmits torque through the gearset. Common reasons for replacement include transmission rebuild service, friction material wear from extended use or neglected fluid service, and burned material caused by overheating or contaminated fluid. Symptoms include slipping under load in the affected gear, harsh or delayed shifts, shudder during light throttle acceleration, and clutch slip diagnostic trouble codes. New friction plates must be soaked in Mercon ULV fluid before installation to prevent first-apply burning. Replacement is a workshop-level service requiring transmission removal, full clutch pack disassembly, replacement of all disturbed soft seals, and refill with specified fluid using the temperature-based fill procedure.
