This is a genuine Ford overdrive clutch driven steel plate for 20-25 Escape vehicles equipped with the 8F35 eight-speed automatic transmission. The plate is one of the smooth steel separator plates that interleave with friction discs inside the overdrive clutch pack, providing the surface against which the friction discs clamp when the clutch is hydraulically applied for the upper gear ratios. Common reasons for replacement include transmission rebuild service, plate distortion from heat damage, and surface scoring after the friction discs have failed and released material into the clutch pack. Symptoms of overdrive clutch plate problems include slipping in upper gears under load, harsh or delayed overdrive engagement, shudder during light throttle highway acceleration, and clutch slip diagnostic trouble codes for the overdrive pack. Replacement is a workshop-level service that requires transmission removal, valve body and clutch pack disassembly, and replacement of all disturbed soft seals. The plate should be installed in the original orientation per Ford service procedure. Refill with specified Mercon ULV fluid using the temperature-based fill procedure.
