• Description:

  This is a genuine Ford front differential pinion seal, also referred to as the differential output shaft seal or oil seal assembly. The seal fits 20-25 Explorer, 20-25 Aviator, and 20-25 Police Interceptor Utility builds with all-wheel drive, sealing the front differential carrier output where the pinion or output shaft passes through the housing to mate with the front drive shaft flange. Ford catalog notes this seal is included with carrier assembly service kits, and the part ships separately when a standalone reseal is the appropriate repair rather than a full carrier replacement. Technicians reach for this seal when a fluid weep appears at the front differential output bore, when the front drive shaft flange shows oil contamination from the pinion area, during a rebuild of the front carrier, or whenever the front drive shaft is removed and the original seal has reached end of life. The lip is precision sealing geometry that must be pressed square into the bore with the correct driver, otherwise the lip rolls or pinches and the new seal leaks immediately. Pre-lubricate the lip with the differential fluid grade being used in the carrier before sliding the pinion flange through the seal to avoid dry-running damage on first rotation. Confirm the bore is clean of old seal material and rust scale, torque the pinion flange nut to specification using the correct procedure for the platform, and refill the carrier with the Ford-specified lubricant after the seal install.
