• Description:

  This is a genuine Ford rear halfshaft seal, also referred to as the axle seal or dust seal, supplied individually for the rear differential output bore at the left or right rear position. Fitment covers 20-25 Explorer, 20-25 Aviator, 20-25 Police Interceptor Utility, and 21-25 Bronco builds with the locking 3.0L rear differential. The seal retains the differential lubricant inside the carrier while keeping road contamination out of the joint between the differential output and the rear halfshaft inner stub. Technicians reach for this part when a fluid weep appears at the differential output bore after the inner stub is pulled and reinstalled, when a halfshaft service requires removing the seal to extract the shaft from the carrier, during a differential rebuild that exposes the output bore, or as part of the seal kit shipped with a remanufactured differential. The seal lip is a precision sealing element and must be installed with the correct driver to seat it square in the bore without rolling or pinching the lip, otherwise leakage will occur immediately after assembly. Pre-lubricate the lip with the differential fluid being used in the carrier before sliding the inner stub through the seal to avoid dry-running damage on first rotation. Confirm the bore is clean of old seal material and rust scale before pressing the new seal, and torque all related axle and suspension fasteners to specification during reassembly.
