• Description:

  This Genuine Ford crankshaft timing gear fits 20-25 F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550 Super Duty and E-350 and E-450 Super Duty trucks with the 7.3L Godzilla or 6.8L gas V8. The crankshaft gear, also called the crankshaft sprocket, drives the timing chain from the front of the crankshaft and synchronizes the camshaft position to the crankshaft position so that the valve events occur at the correct time during each engine cycle. A worn or damaged crankshaft gear causes timing chain stretch, valve timing drift, intermittent misfire codes referencing specific cylinders, and eventually a no-start condition if the keyway shears. The gear is press-fit on the crankshaft snout and indexed by a Woodruff key; correct alignment of the timing marks at the camshaft sprockets is essential during reassembly. non-OEM gears are commonly mis-spec on tooth profile or material hardness, leading to early chain wear and timing drift. Use the correct puller and installer tooling so that the load passes through the gear hub rather than the bore; align the timing marks to factory specification before lowering the chain into place.
