This genuine Ford accessory drive belt tensioner assembly maintains constant, correct tension on the serpentine accessory drive belt using an internal spring and a damped pivoting arm with an integrated idler pulley. It fits 2020-2026 Ford Explorer, Lincoln Aviator without hybrid, and Police Interceptor Utility equipped with the 3.0L EcoBoost twin-turbo V6, and it supersedes the earlier L1MZ-6A228-A. A vehicle needing this tensioner usually exhibits belt squeal or chirp on cold start, a rattle or knocking from the front of the engine at idle, visible belt flutter, or a worn, seized, or noisy pulley bearing; a weak tensioner spring allows the belt to slip, which can cause intermittent charging, power steering, or water pump drive problems. Installing the complete genuine assembly restores the factory spring rate and pulley alignment so the belt tracks true and wears evenly. The tensioner pivot bolt is torque-to-yield on this application and should be replaced and torqued to Ford specification during service; rotate the tensioner only with the correct tool and confirm belt routing against the underhood diagram before releasing it.
