• Description:

  This is a genuine Ford OEM single-use axle nut for the 20-26 Ford Explorer all-wheel drive front and rear hub assemblies. The nut secures the half-shaft outer stub to the wheel hub bearing and provides the clamp load that sets the bearing preload. As an OEM Ford fastener the thread form, hardness, and final torque specification are matched to the Explorer AWD hub. This is a single-use torque-to-yield nut and cannot be reused once removed, because the staking deformation that locks the nut against the stub thread is not present on a re-used nut, and re-using a stretched fastener leaves inadequate clamp load that allows the hub bearing to develop play and ultimately to fail. Always install a new nut whenever the half-shaft has been disturbed at the hub end. Torque to Ford specification with the wheel on the ground per workshop manual, then stake the nut into the shaft groove to lock the fastener against rotation.
