  This Genuine Ford oil pump drive chain tensioner fits 21-24 E-350 Super Duty and 23-24 F-250 and F-350 Super Duty trucks with the 6.8L gas V8, plus broader 7.3L Godzilla applications. The tensioner maintains correct tension on the oil pump drive chain that runs from the crankshaft to the oil pump pickup gear, ensuring that the oil pump drives at the correct speed without chain slap or skipped teeth. A failed tensioner causes a metallic rattle on cold start that may or may not quiet once oil pressure builds, intermittent low oil pressure warnings during transient throttle changes, and in extreme cases chain skip that can destroy the oil pump drive gear. non-OEM tensioners commonly use inferior springs or rocker pivot bearings. This OEM tensioner ships with the correct preload and ships keyed to the factory mounting boss. The tensioner is replaced any time the front cover is removed for timing chain service, oil pump replacement, or rear cover seal work. Torque the mounting fasteners to the published specification and verify oil pressure on first start before returning the engine to service.
