The assembly provides the federally required elevated rear stop signal visible to following drivers above the line of the trunk lid or rear fascia, and it activates simultaneously with the primary tail lamp stop function whenever the brake pedal is depressed. Construction integrates an LED array, polycarbonate lens, sealing gasket, electrical pigtail, and mounting clips into a single weatherproof unit designed for replacement as an assembly when the LED bank fails or the lens is damaged. Symptoms calling for replacement include observed loss of CHMSL function during pre-trip walkaround or post-collision inspection, internal moisture creating visible fogging, lens cracking from impact, and intermittent operation traceable to the lamp itself rather than the body control module circuit.
