  This is the genuine Ford shock absorber assembly for the 2021-2025 Explorer, supplied as a complete damper unit rather than a bare tube. Ford catalogs it as Shock Absorber Assembly and the assembly is supplied with the shock, the jounce bumper, the dust cover and the shock mount and cap, so the wear items that normally have to be sourced separately arrive already fitted and correctly oriented. The damper controls the rate at which the spring compresses and rebounds, which is what keeps the tire in contact with the road, stops the body from floating and pitching after bumps and prevents the wheel from oscillating after a dip or expansion joint. It fits either side of the vehicle. Buyers reach for this part after the ride turns bouncy and floaty, after the vehicle continues to rock for two or three cycles following a bump, after nose dive under braking or excessive body roll in corners becomes noticeable, after a knock or clunk develops from the wheel well because the mount or bumper has broken down, or after the shock body starts weeping oil down its tube.
