• Description:

  This Genuine Ford ML3Z-7B164-A is the C Clutch friction plate, also catalog-named clutch internal-spline plate, for the 10R80 ten-speed automatic transmission fitted to 21-25 F-150 applications. The friction plate is a hardened steel core with bonded friction material that engages and disengages the C Clutch element during specific shift events, transferring torque through the planetary gear set when the C Clutch is commanded apply by the transmission valve body and decoupling when commanded release. Per Ford TSB 25-2474 for the 10R80 CDF Cylinder Replacement procedure, five C Clutch friction plates per service are required on F-150, Expedition, and Navigator applications. Technicians install this plate during a 10R80 CDF cylinder service, during a complete clutch pack rebuild where the C Clutch shows glazing or wear, after a transmission failure has damaged the clutch material and a complete rebuild is required, or during a Ford warranty TSB compliance service. Installation is a transmission-shop task requiring the 10R80 to be opened on the bench, the C Clutch pack disassembled, the new friction plates stacked in the correct order with the matching steels, and the clutch piston travel verified before reassembly.
