• Description:

  This Genuine Ford ML3Z-3B478-A is the front CV joint boot band clamp used on 21-25 F-150 4WD trucks with the Limited Slip torque-biasing front axle. The crimped-steel band clamps the rubber CV boot to the axle shaft at the inner or outer joint, holding the boot seal against the joint housing under the centrifugal force generated at high wheel speeds and across the full range of suspension articulation. Once crimped the band cannot be reused, so this part is the correct single-use service replacement whenever a CV boot is re-installed during axle service, boot replacement, or joint repacking. Technicians install this clamp when the original band has corroded, when boot replacement requires the band to be cut off, when a grease-slung boot has loosened from a partially failed band, or when the boot itself has been replaced and a new band must be crimped to seal the joint. Installation requires a CV boot band crimping tool capable of compressing the band ear to the correct torque-equivalent crimp dimension. Verify clamp position with the boot fully seated before crimping since an incorrectly positioned band will tear the boot lip and accelerate grease loss.
