This Genuine Ford ML3Z-6279-A is the crankshaft pulley and harmonic damper assembly for 21-25 F-150 applications. The damper bolts to the front of the crankshaft and serves three functions in one assembly. It drives the accessory belt around the alternator, water pump, A/C compressor, and power steering pump where applicable. It anchors the crankshaft position sensor reluctor wheel that the engine ECM reads to determine crankshaft speed and angular position. And it absorbs torsional vibration through an elastomeric layer between the hub and the outer pulley ring so the crankshaft does not flex in resonance and the front main bearing service life is preserved. Owners replace this damper when the elastomeric layer separates and the outer ring wobbles or shifts on the hub, when accessory belt routing becomes erratic because the pulley face is no longer concentric with the crank centerline, when a crank-sensor DTC traces to a damaged reluctor edge, or when the front-cover seal has worn a groove into the damper hub during seal contact. Installation requires a proper crank pulley installer and a single-use crankshaft bolt torqued to Ford specification including the torque-to-yield rotation.
