The seal carries the high-pressure boundary at the boost pressure relief valve, which is the safety vent on the intercooler charge air path that opens during extreme manifold pressure spikes. A worn or hardened seal leaks boost during peak load, presents as reduced power under throttle, and may set lean codes when the leak rate exceeds the fuel trim authority.
