This is the genuine Ford automatic transmission oil cooler assembly for the 6.7L Power Stroke diesel Super Duty, the heat exchanger that pulls heat out of the automatic transmission fluid so the fluid stays inside its designed operating window under load. Transmission fluid is the working medium for the torque converter and the clutch packs, and when it overheats it oxidizes, loses viscosity, and stops carrying the film that protects the clutches and bearings, so the cooler is one of the most important components protecting transmission life on a truck that tows or hauls. Ford lists this assembly in the transmission cooling group for 2023 and newer F-250 and F-350 Super Duty applications with the heavy duty automatic behind the 6.7L diesel. Buyers shop for a replacement cooler when a transmission overheat warning appears on the cluster during towing or grade climbing, when the fluid is discolored and smells burnt, when an external leak develops at a cooler tube or fitting and fluid drips onto the crossmember, when a front end collision or a road debris strike has crushed or punctured the cooler core, or when a transmission failure has sent metal and friction material through the cooler and the contaminated unit has to be renewed along with the transmission because it cannot be reliably flushed clean.
