Exhaust Gas Temperature (Egt) Sensor, Sensor Exhaust Gas Tempera
- Description:
The exhaust gas temperature sensor threads into the exhaust stream and reports real-time gas temperature to the powertrain control module, which uses that signal to manage diesel particulate filter regeneration, protect the turbocharger and catalyst from overtemperature, and keep the emissions system inside its operating window. Ford catalogs this part as Sensor - Exhaust Gas - Temperature and it is used on 2023-2025 F-250 Super Duty and F-350 Super Duty trucks built with the 6.7L Power Stroke diesel as well as the 6.8L and 7.3L gasoline V8 engines, appearing in the exhaust sensor diagram alongside the shields and mounting bracket that support the sensor lead. A failing or drifting temperature sensor typically announces itself with a check engine lamp and stored diagnostic trouble codes, incomplete or endlessly repeating regeneration cycles, a warning that the exhaust filter is full, reduced power or limp-home operation, poor fuel economy, and in some cases a no-start after a failed regeneration attempt. The braided or armored lead is a common failure point because it lives in an extremely hot, vibration-heavy environment, and a chafed or broken conductor produces the same symptoms as a failed sensing element. This is the genuine Ford component built to the original calibration curve, so the module reads correct temperature rather than the skewed values a substitute part can produce. Install with the specified torque, allow the exhaust to cool fully before removal, apply high-temperature anti-seize to the threads only if the service procedure calls for it, and route the harness away from hot exhaust surfaces and moving components. Clearing stored codes after installation is recommended so the regeneration strategy restarts from a known-good state.
