It carries pressurized fuel from the engine-driven high-pressure pump to the direct-injection fuel rail, and its precision fittings and seals must hold thousands of psi without weeping. A cracked line, loosened fitting, or a failed sealing ferrule can cause a raw-fuel smell, hard starting, rough running, lean codes, or a visible leak at the pump or rail, any of which is a fire and driveability concern that warrants immediate attention. Because this is a sealed high-pressure connection, the sealing fittings are single-use: do not reuse the old line or its ferrules once disturbed, and always install the new tube whenever the high-pressure pump or fuel rail is removed, torquing the fittings to Ford specification.
