This is the genuine Motorcraft diesel glow plug for the 6.9L IDI indirect-injection diesel V8 used in Ford F-250, F-350, and E-Series trucks and vans of the early-to-mid 1980s. The 6.9L indirect-injection diesel relies on its glow plugs to preheat the pre-combustion chamber so the engine fires promptly on cold mornings and runs without excessive smoke or roughness while warming up. This plug is the current-production replacement that consolidates the earlier spade-terminal design, corresponding to Ford service number MC3Z-12A342-D and superseding E5TZ-12A342-B (the original ZD-1A). One glow plug installs per cylinder. Common signs of failed glow plugs include long cranking before the engine catches, a no-start in cold temperatures, heavy white smoke and misfire during warm-up, and a rough, stumbling cold idle. Fresh plugs restore dependable cold-weather starting on these older indirect-injection diesels. Inspect the glow plug controller and feed harness at the same time, and torque each plug carefully to protect the cylinder-head threads.
