• Description:

  This is the genuine Ford clutch release bearing, also called the throwout bearing, the component that transfers clutch-fork motion into the spinning pressure plate diaphragm fingers to disengage the clutch when the pedal is pressed. Riding on the transmission input-shaft bearing retainer, it lets the fork push against the rotating clutch assembly smoothly through a sealed bearing. It is cataloged for Ford Mustang manual-transmission applications across a long run from the early 1980s through 2004, covering the 5.0L pushrod and later 4.6L modular V8 cars with a mechanical release, and it supersedes prior part number D9ZZ-7548-A. A worn or dry bearing announces itself as a chirp, whine, or rumble that appears when the clutch pedal is depressed and quiets when released, and in advanced wear it can cause difficult disengagement, gear grind, or a stuck clutch.
