• Description:

  This is the genuine Ford right side timing chain tensioner for the modular overhead cam V8 engine family, cataloged by Ford as a Tensioner Timing Chain and mounting to the passenger side cylinder head timing area. The tensioner uses spring force and engine oil pressure to keep constant tension on the timing chain, taking up slack as the chain and guides wear so valve timing stays accurate and the chain cannot slap, jump a tooth, or contact the cover. It applies to 4.6L, 5.4L and related modular V8 applications spanning the F-150, F-250 and F-350 pickups, Mustang, Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis, and the Lincoln Navigator across roughly the 1992 to 2004 build window. A worn or failing tensioner is a common source of a rattling or knocking noise on cold startup that may fade as oil pressure builds, a persistent timing chain rattle at idle, or in severe cases a check engine light for camshaft to crankshaft correlation.
