  This is a genuine Ford Motorcraft internal transmission filter, a fluid passage screen for the automatic transmission used behind 7.3L Power Stroke diesel and related applications. The filter mounts inside the transmission pan area and screens the automatic transmission fluid as the pump draws it up, trapping debris and protecting the valve body, clutches, and pump from contamination. Clean, filtered fluid is essential to consistent shifting and long transmission life. Owners replace this filter during a transmission fluid and filter service, when performing a pan-drop maintenance interval, or when chasing shifting problems, low fluid pressure, or contamination found in the pan. A clogged or bypassing filter can starve the pump and cause harsh or delayed shifts and accelerated wear.
