This Genuine Ford power steering pump pulley, part number YR3Z-3A733-AA, presses onto the power steering pump shaft and is driven by the accessory drive belt to turn the pump and generate the hydraulic assist for the steering system. It fits 1996 through 2004 Ford Mustang with the 3.8L and 3.9L OHV V6 engines and the 1996 and 1997 Ford Thunderbird and Mercury Cougar with the 3.8L V6, and it replaces the earlier F6ZZ-3A733-A design. A bent, wobbling, or corroded pulley can throw the serpentine belt out of alignment, causing belt squeal, accelerated belt wear, a whining pump, or heavy steering if the belt slips. Because the pulley is a press fit, correct installation depth and a proper puller and installer tool are required so the shaft and pump body are not damaged during service. Verify the pulley runs true and sits flush with the belt plane before returning the vehicle to service so the accessory drive tracks correctly.
